Prospects End Moo Win Streak

Fremont, Nebraska - A stellar starting pitcher matchup lived up to its billing Saturday at Historic Moller Field. The Nebraska Prospects' Cooper Katskee outdueled Fremont's Robert O'Malley, handing The Moo a 4-2 loss in ILB action.


Both starters were on top of their game as neither team scored until the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, The Prospects' Easton Swafford doubled off Fremont's O'Malley, with two outs. Then, Jackson Trout singled, scoring Swafford, to make it 1-0.


The Prospects added three runs in the top of the seventh. With one out, Jacob Perrin singled and Nico Sall was hit by a pitch. The Prospects executed a double-steal to put runners at second and third. Two batters later, Paul Schuyler hit a ground-rule double, scoring Perrin and Sall, to make it a 3-0 Prospects lead. Fremont went to the bullpen and brought in Hayden Kelberlau to pitch. The Moo right-hander walked Trent Barry and hit Easton Swafford with a pitch. Then, a passed ball scored Schuyler to put The Prospects up 4-0.


Fremont finally scratched the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth. Against reliever JT Roy, Cooper Fuchino was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Carter Sintek drew a walk. Then, a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. The next batter, Jack Torosian, hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Fuchino, to make it 4-1.


The Moo still trailed by three going into the bottom of the ninth. Isaac Bonner led off with a walk. Then, Carson Burnett singled to put runners at first and second. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. The next batter, Miles Meadows, drew a walk to load the bases. After Roy struck out Josh Blount looking for the first out, Cooper Fuchino drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Bonner, to make it a 4-2 game. Roy struck out Bridger Coleman for the second out. Then, Carter Sintek hit a fly ball into the right center field gap, but The Prospects Brice Wallar made a diving catch to secure the Prospects win, 4-2.


The Prospects (6-19, 1-9) scored four runs off four hits and committed one error. Fremont (24-15, 11-4) had two runs off three hits and had one error.


Prospects starter Cooper Katskee (1-0) earned the win. He pitched 7.0 innings, giving up no runs off two hits, struck out eight, walked one, had one wild pitch and hit four batters. JT Roy (1) picked up the save. He pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two runs off one hit, struck out four, walked four, had two wild pitches and hit one batter.


Fremont starter Robert O'Malley (3-1) took the loss. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs off four hits, struck out nine, walked one and hit one batter. Hayden Kelberlau pitched 2.1 innings, giving up no runs with no hits, struck out five, walked one, had one wild pitch and hit three batters.


Offensively for The Prospects, Jackson Trout was 1-for-4 with an rbi. Paul Schuyler went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.


For Fremont, Cooper Fuchino was 1-for-3 with an rbi. Jack Torosian was 0-for-3 and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.


The two teams will conclude their five-game series at Historic Moller Field, Sunday afternoon. First pitch is 5:05 p.m.


More Information: With the loss, Fremont had its six-game win streak come to an end. Consequently, The Prospects snapped an eleven-game losing skid, with the win. 


Sunday's game between Fremont and The Prospects is "Sundae Fun" day. There will be mini ice cream helmet sundaes for sale. Also, it's "Swing For Wings", presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
