Fremont, Nebraska- The Fremont Moo completed a series sweep of the Oahe Zap in a 13-1 win Thursday night at Historic Moller Field.
The starting pitchers for both teams controlled things early as both teams were scoreless after three full innings.
Fremont started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth. Neil Jansen hit a one-out double off Zap starter Nick Blessing, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. The next batter, Tyman Long, hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Jansen, to make it 1-0.
The Moo added two more runs in the fifth. Connor Petersern led off with a single and Andrew Kirchner reached on an error by Kyle Memarian at second base, to put runners at first and second. Two batters later, Trey Nichols hit a two-RBI double to left center, scoring Petersen and Kirchner, to make it 3-0.
Fremont's biggest inning came in the sixth. The Moo sent eleven batters to the plate and brought home six runs. Jansen singled and Long followed with a double. Tyler Harrington hit an RBI single, scoring Jansen, to make it 4-0. Harrington stole second, then Petersen hit an RBI single, scoring Long, to make it 5-0. The Zap went to the bullpen and brought in Gage Huffman. He walked Kirchner and Tyler Hummel, which brought home Harrington, to make it 6-0. Trey Nichols reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Petersen, to make it 7-0, Fremont. Two batters later, Hayden Lewis hit a two-RBI single, bringing home Kirchner and Nichols to put Fremont up, 9-0.
The Moo reached double digits in the seventh inning. Off reliever John Patty, Harrington led off with a double. Two batters later, Kirchner doubled, driving home Harrington, to make it 10-0.
Oahe scored its lone run in the eighth. With one out, Jackson Mix hit a triple off Moo reliever Jacob Ortiz. The next batter, Kyle Memarian, grounded out to short, scoring Mix, to make it 10-1.
Fremont added three runs in the eighth. Off reliever Collin Quandee, Easton Steck drew a walk, then Hayden Lewis singled. Two batters later, Tyman Long walked. Then, Tyler Harrington hit a two-RBI double, scoring Steck and Lewis to make it 12-1. Conner Petersen got hit by a pitch and the Zap went to the bullpen, bringing in Erik Lemberg. The reliever hit Kirchner with a pitch, bringing home Long, to make it 13-1.
"Been working on some things to help with my hitting everyday," Harrington said. "I got some good pitches and hit it hard tonight."
In the top of the ninth, Kadyn Van Hill came on to close out the game. He struck out pinch-hitter Yuki Gushi looking for the first out, then walked pinch-hitter Kaleb Hay. Van Hill recovered as he struck out pinch-hitter Garret Bergman, looking, and got Jared Heck to foul out to Tyman Long, wide of first base, for the final out of the game.
Fremont starter Landon Mueller (2-1) picked up the win. The Fremont native at Southeast Community College pitched 5.0 innings, giving up one hit, no runs, walked four, struck out seven and had one wild pitch. Jacob Ortiz pitched 3.0 innings. The Tucson, Arizona native from Cerro Coso Community College gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out three. Kadyn Van Hill pitched the ninth inning. The Omaha native from Iowa Western Community College walked one and struck out two.
Oahe starter Nick Blessing (1-6) took the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings, giving up seven hits, five earned runs, struck out six and had one wild pitch. Gage Huffman pitched 1.0 inning. He gave up two hits, two runs, walked two, struck out one and had one wild pitch. John Patty pitched 1.0 inning. He gave up two hits, one run and struck out one. Collin Quandee pitched 0.1 inning. He gave up two hits, three runs, walked one, struck out one and hit one batter. Erik Lemberg pitched 0.2 innings and hit one batter.
Offensively, Fremont's Hayden Lewis was 2-for-5. The Yutan native at the University of Nebraska drove in two runs. Neil Jansen was 3-for-5. The Cypress, California native at San Jose State had a single and two doubles. Tyman Long was 1-for-4. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native at College of Southern Nevada had one RBI. Tyler Harrington was 3-for-5. The Lakeland, Tennessee native via Southwest Tennessee Community College, headed to UAB, drove home three runs. Connor Petersen was 2-for-4. The Tucson, Arizona native at Midland University knocked in one run. Andrew Kirchner was 1-for-3. The Lakewood, California native at UNLV had two RBI's. Tyler Hummel was 0-4, but the Nolensville, Tennessee native at Colorado School of Mines had one RBI. Trey Nichols was 1-for-5. The Bowling Green, Missouri native at Midland University drove in three runs.
Oahe's Kyle Memarian was 0-for-3 with one RBI.
More Information: With the win, Fremont extended its winning streak to four games. Fremont swept a series from the Zap for a second time this season and claimed the season series, 7-5.
"We are on a win streak right now," Harrington said. "We already got the championship berth locked up but we need to go into the championship series hot."
Up Next: Fremont (26-18, 9-11) will host the Spearfish Sasquatch (22-25, 11-11) Friday night at 7:05 at Historic Moller Field. Friday night's theme is "Hawaiian Night". The Moo will wear uniforms with a Hawaiian theme, presented by Methodist Fremont Health.
