Fremont Late Inning Rally Secures Sweep of Sodbusters

Fremont, Nebraska- For the third straight game, the Fremont Moo scored late to defeat the Hastings Sodbusters. Wednesday night, Fremont completed the series sweep with a 9-8 win at Historic Moller Field.
Hastings jumped on the board in the top of the first. Landon Gaz struck out swinging against Moo starter Brody Sintek, but a wild pitch advanced Gaz to first base. Two batters later, Markos Cabranas doubled to put runners at second and third. With two outs, Nick Jones delivered an RBI single, scoring Gaz, to make it 1-0. The next batter, Zach Vetal singled, scoring Cabranes, to put Hastings up, 2-0.
Fremont cut the lead in half, in the bottom of the first. Blake Tablazon led off with a walk, got to second on a passed ball, then took third on a balk by Sodbuster starter Fred Juden. Then, Ben Swails hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Tablazon, to make it 2-1.
The Moo took the lead in the bottom of the second. Henry Hayman drew a walk and Andrew Kirchener singled. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. Trey Nichols walked to load the bases, then a wild pitch scored Hayman to tie the game at two. Two batters later, Easton Steck drew a walk, then Blake Tablazon hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Kirchener, to make it 3-2, Fremont.
The Sodbusters tied the score in the top of the fourth. With one out, Rusty Wortman singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then, Josh Prinner hit an RBI double, scoring Wortman, to make it 3-3.
Hastings recaptured the lead in the top of the sixth. With one out, Wortman and Adam DeBoer drew back-to-back walks. Then, Kyle Hiltbrand hit a two-RBI double, scoring Wortman and DeBoer to make it 5-3, Sodbusters.
The lead changed hands again, in the bottom of the seventh. Fremont's Tablazon led off with a single. Two batters later, Neil Jansen walked. A double steal put runners at second and third. Hayden Lewis drew a walk to load the bases. Then, Henry Hayman roped a two-rbi single to left, scoring Tablazon and Jansen to tie the game at five. The next batter, Kirchener, delivered an RBI single, scoring Lewis to make it a 6-5, Fremont lead.
The Sodbusters grabbed the lead back in the top of the eighth. Adam DeBoer reached on an error. Then, Hiltbrand reached on a fielder's choice, but advanced to second on a throwing error. Then, Layne Shiers hit an RBI triple to the right center field gap, scoring Hiltbrand to tie the game at six. The next batter, Gaz, hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Shiers, to put Hastings in front, 7-6.
In the bottom of the eighth, Fremont snared the lead back, this time for good. Swails hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third. Two batters later, Lewis drew a walk, then Hayman hit an RBI single, scoring Swails to tie the game at seven. With runners at the corners Kirchener singled, driving in Lewis. On the play, the throw from centerfield to third base bounced away allowing Hayman to score, making it 9-7, Fremont.
Hastings tried to rally in the top of the ninth off Moo reliever Brandon Lundquist. Cabranes led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Nick Jones singled. A wild pitch allowed Cabranas to score, however Jones remained at first. Then, Wortman hit a sharp grounder to Kirchener at first that ricochet off his glove over to Blake Tablazon who scooped it with his glove and shovelled it back to Kirchener for the second out. Then, Hastings sent Calvin Johnson in to pinch run at second base. Lundquist attempted a pickoff throw to second that sailed into right field, advancing Johnson to third. However, Lundquist got DeBoer to swing at a 1-1 pitch and ground out to Tablazon at second for the final out of the game.
Fremont starter Brody Sintek pitched 3.1 innings. The Fremont native at Wayne State College gave up five hits, three runs, struck out four and had three wild pitches. Cole Hupke pitched 2.2 innings. The Brandon, South Dakota native gave up one hit, two runs, three walks, struck out five and had one wild pitch. Kadyn Van Hill (1-1) earned the win. The Omaha native at Iowa Western Community College pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one hit, two unearned runs, struck out two and hit one batter. Brandon Lundquist (1) earned the save. The Omaha native from the University of Nebraska pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one hit, one run, walked one and had two wild pitches.
Hastings starter Fred Juden pitched 4.0 innings, giving up two hits, one earned run, walked four and struck out five, committed one balk and had two wild pitches. Alec Fichter pitched 2.2 innings, giving up four hits, three runs, walked three and struck out five and hit one batter. Jacob Shaw (1-1) took the loss. He pitched 1.2 innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs, walked one, struck out two and had one wild pitch.
Offensively, Fremont's Blake Tablazon was 1-for-4. The Lynewoon, Washington native at Cerro Coso Community College had one RBI. Ben Swails was 1-for-5. The Tiffin, Iowa native at University of Iowa drove in one run. Henry Hayman was 2-for-4. The Melbourne, Australia native from Barton County Community College had three RBI's. Andrew Kirchener was 3-for-5. The Lakewood, California native at UNLV drove in two runs.
For Hastings, Nick Jones was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Zach Vetal was 1-for-1 with a run batted in. Josh Prinner was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Kyle Hiltbrand came off the bench and went 1-for-2 with two RBI's, and Layne Shiers was 1-for-4 with a run batted in.
More Information: Fremont completed a three game sweep of the Sodbusters and is 9-0 against Hastings, this year. The Moo have won ten straight against Hastings, dating back to last season.
