Hastings, Nebraska- The fourth of July matinee at Duncan Field turned into a Moo comeback for the ages. Fremont trailed Hastings 8-1 after seven innings, but stormed back to defeat the Sodbusters, 9-8, Tuesday evening.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when Hastings plated five runs. Markos Cabranes led off with a walk and stole second base. Zach Vetal walked to put runners at first and second. Nick Jones laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing the runners to second and third. Then, Landon Gaz ripped a two-RBI double, scoring Cabranes and Vetal to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Josh Prinner smoked an RBI double, scoring Gaz to make it a 3-0, Sodbusters lead.  Layne Shiers drew a walk and that chased Moo starter Landon Mueller from the game. Reliever Jacob Ortiz came on and delivered an errant pick off throw to first, scoring Josh Prinner, to make it 4-0. Anthony Chavez brought home Shiers on an RBI single to make it 5-0, Hastings.

The Sodbusters added a run in the top of the fifth. Kale Jensen led off with a walk. After a groundout, Vetal hit an RBI single, scoring Jensen, to put Hastings up 6-0.

Fremont finally got on the board in the top of the seventh. Ben Swails led off with a single. Two batters later, Jayson Willers smacked an RBI double, scoring Swails to make it 6-1.

Hastings added two in the bottom of the seventh to extend the lead to seven runs. After Moo reliever Jagger Edwards got a flyout to begin the inning, Evan Kleinhans entered the game, on the mound. He hit Cabranes with a pitch and walked Vetal to put runners on first and second. Then, a wild pitch advanced runners to second and third. Kleinhans then walked Nick Jones and Landon Gaz, bringing home Cabranes to make it 7-1. Kyle Hiltbrand then hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Vetal, to put Hastings up 8-1.

Then...the Moo comeback began. In the top of the eighth, Brandon Mackey took over for Sodbuster starter Markus Miller. Mackey walked the leadoff batter in the inning, Easton Steck. Two batters later, Jason Clark got hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Next, Neil Jansen singled to load up the bases. Then, Ben Swails drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Steck, to make it 8-2. The Sodbusters went to the bullpen and brought in Kaden Kuusela. He got Moo pinch-hitter Blake Tablazon to ground out to second, but Clark scored, making it 8-3. Then, Jayson Willers roped a two-RBI double, scoring Jansen and Swails to make it 8-5. After Henry Hayman was hit by a pitch, Andrew Kirchener singled to load up the bases. Then, Willers scored on a wild pitch, to make the score 8-6, however, Kuusela got Steck to ground out to first to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Moo went to reliever Cooper Mollet. He walked Shiers to begin the inning, but got Anthony Chavez to swing and miss while Shiers was attempting to steal second. However, a batter's interference call wiped Shiers off the bases, as well, for a double play. Kale Jensen drew a walk before Mollet got Cabranes to pop up to third, to end the inning.

The Sodbusters went to the bullpen and brought in NIko Riera to close out the ninth, but the Moo had other plans. Tyler Hummel led off with a walk and Jason Clark delivered a base hit down the right field line to put runners at first and second. Moo coach Ben Ascher entered Darius Blasingane into the game, to pinch-run for Clark, at first. The next batter, Neil Jansen hit a Riera 3-2 pitch to the deepest part of Duncan Field, over the center field wall and 408-foot sign, for a three run home run, to put the Moo ahead 9-8.

In the bottom of the ninth, Blasingane stayed in the game to pitch. He got Vetal to fly out to right for the first out. Then, Jones flew out to center for the second out. Blasingane sealed the miraculous comeback victory by getting Gaz to swing and miss at a 3-2 fastball to end the game.

Fremont starter Landon Mueller pitched 3.2 innings. The Fremont native at Southeast Community College gave up three hits, three earned runs, walked four and struck out four and had three wild pitches. Jacob Ortiz pitched 1.1 innings.
