Fremont, Nebraska- The Fremont Moo scored early, and often in a 13-2 win over the Nebraska Prospects on Fireworks Friday, presented by the Nebraska Lottery, at Historic Moller Field. With the win, the Moo took the first game of the three-game series, and started off a six-game homestand on the right foot.
It was the Prospects who started the scoring, though. Leadoff batter Easton Swafford began the game with a double off the left field fence. After an error by Tyman Long at first base on a put out attempt, the Prospects had runners at the corners. Nathan Cunningham reached on a fielder's choice, which brought home Swafford, making it 1-0, Prospects, after a half inning.
Fremont answered in the bottom half of the first. Blake Tablazon led off the inning with a walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Henry Hayman, then delivered an rbi single, scoring Tablazon, and tying the game at one, after the first inning.
Then, the Moo offense clicked. Tyman Long led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left field, his second of the season, to make it 2-1, the Moo. The next batter, Sammy Contacos, an Irwin, Pennsylvania native and Western Illinois player, followed with a solo homer of his own, over the left center field fence, to make it 3-1, Fremont.
Fremont added two more runs in the third. Hayman led off with a single, before Josh Blount drew a base on balls. Then, Tyler Harrington delivered a two run double to make it 5-1, Fremont.
In the fourth, the Moo would add two more. Designated hitter, Jason Clark led off with a single. Tablazon was hit by a pitch and Hayman drew a walk to load the bases. Two batters later, Harrington scored Clark on a rbi groundout to short. Then, Ben Swails brought home Tablazon on a single to make it 7-1, Moo, after four innings.
The Moo added three more runs in the fifth. Hunter Palmer led off with a walk, then advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw by relief pitcher Charlie Mosser. Fremont pinch-hitter Trey Nichols drew a walk. Palmer would score on a passed ball, making it 8-1. Two batters later, Fremont reached double-digits in the run column when Hayman hit his first homer of the year, a two-run shot to left. Fremont led 10-1 after five innings.
The Prospects got back on the board in the sixth. Jackson Trout was hit by a pitch with one out, and a passed ball advanced him to second. Two batters later Tre Mungin delivered a rbi double, making it 10-2, the Moo.
The final scoring came in the bottom of the sixth, when Fremont scored three more times. Swails led off with a walk, then stole second and third. The Tiffin, Iowa native and Iowa Hawkeye stole four bases on the night. Two batter later, Palmer drew a walk. Then, Nichols was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tablazon, then, stepped to the plate and smacked a bases clearing triple, to make it 13-2, which turned out to be the final score.
Tyson Romero (1-0) earned the win. The Lincoln, Nebraska native and Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolf pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. He walked one, struck out six and hit two batters. Cooper Mollett pitched 2.1 innings. The Edina, Minnesota native, who plays for Northern Iowa Area Community College, gave up two hits and struck out four. Finally, Darius Blasingane, pitched the ninth inning. A native of St. Petersburg, Florida and right-hander at Edward Waters University, struck out two, after hitting one batter.
The Prospects' Cameron Pickens (2-1), took the loss He pitched three innings, giving up seven hits and six earned runs, walked three and struck out two. He gave up the back-to-back homers to Long and Contacos, had a wild pitch and hit one batter. Charlie Mosser pitched 2.2 innings. He gave up two hits, four earned runs, walked six, struck out two and yielded the homerun by Hayman. Danny Spongberg pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit, one run, and struck out four.
Offensively, the Moo were led by Henry Hayman. The Melbourne, Australia native from Barton County Community College was 3-for-4 with a homer and three rbi's. Tyler Harrington was 1-for-5 with three rbi's. Ben Swails was 2-for-4 with a rbi and four stolen bases. Tyman Long was 1-for-4 with a solo homerun, as was Sammy Contacos.
The Prospects were led by Cade Lynam, who was 2-for-2.
More Information: Fremont won it's fourth straight game, making it the longest winning streak for the Cows, this year. The 13 runs scored and three homers were also high water marks for the Moo this season. Over the past two years, Fremont is now 7-0 against the Prospects.
