Fremont, Nebraska- Tyman Long hit a pair of two-run home runs and Tyson Romero pitched five strong innings to lead the Fremont Moo to a 10-1 victory over the Nebraska Prospects Saturday night at Historic Moller Field.
The Moo got the scoring started in the bottom of the first. Tyler Harrington hit a two out double. Then, Tyman Long reached out and hit a P.J. Loucks 2-1 pitch, located knee-high, over the left field fence for a two-run home run. Long's eighth homer of the year put Fremont up 2-0.
Fremont extended the lead in the bottom of the second. Neil Jansen led off with a single, then stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw from Prospects' catcher Tucker Bradley. Two batters later, Tyler Hummel hit a high bouncer to second which allowed Jansen to score, making it 3-0.
The Moo extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth. After a ground out double play, Fremont put a two-out rally together. Ben Swails singled, then Hayden Lewis drew a walk. Tyler Harrington delivered an RBI double, scoring Swails to make it 4-0.
Fremont added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Jansen drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on another Bradley throwing error. Andrew Kirchener then hit a ground ball to the hole at short. Prospects' shortstop fielded the ball and threw home, but Jansen beat the throw to make it 5-0. A base hit by Tyler Hummel put runner's at the corners. Then, Hummel stole second and a fake throw by Bradley backfired as the ball rolled out up the third base line, allowing Kirchener to score, making it 6-0.
The Prospects got on the board in the top of the seventh. Bradley reached on a one-out walk. Cade Lynam then reached on an infield single and an errant throw by Tyman Long allowed Bradley to advance to third, putting runners at the corners. Danny Spongberg then delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Bradley, to make it 6-1.
The Moo got a run back in the bottom of the seventh. Against Prospects' reliever Charlie Mosser, Hayden Lewis led off with a single and Harrington followed with one of his own to put runners at the corners. A wild pitch advanced Harrington to second base, putting runners at second and third. Two batters later, Jayson Willers was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. After Neil Jansen struck out looking, Kirchener hit an RBI single, scoring Lewis to put Fremont up 7-1.
Fremont added the final three runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Pinch-hitter Braden Sweet drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Lewis walked, then Sweet stole third. Tyler Harrington reached on a grounder to second, forcing out Lewis, but allowing Sweet to score, to make it 8-1. Then, Long crushed an 0-1 pitch from Charlie Mosser high and deep over the left field fence, for his second of the night and ninth of the year, to make it 10-1.
In the top of the ninth, Trey Nichols struck out Tre' Mungin swinging, Bradley looking and got Cade Lynam to swing and miss at a 1-2 pitch to end the game.
Fremont starter Tyson Romero (4--0) earned the win. The Lincoln native at Nebraska Wesleyan pitched 5.0 innings, giving up three hits with one walk and struck out five. Zane Leyden pitched 2.0 innings. The Firth native at Bellevue University gave up two hits, one unearned run, walked one and struck out one. Trey Nichols pitched the final two innings. The Midland University product from Bowling Green, Missouri walked one and struck out three.
P.J. Loucks (5-1) suffered the loss. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs, walked one, struck out seven and gave up the first inning home run to Long. Truit Luth pitched 1.1 innings. He gave up one hit, two unearned runs, walked one and struck out two. Charlie Mosser pitched 2.0 innings, giving up five hits, four runs, walked three, struck out three and yielded Long's eighth inning home run. Mosser also had three wild pitches and hit one batter.
Offensively, Fremont's Tyler Harrington went 3-for-5. The Lakeland, Tennessee native headed to UAB, had two RBI's. Tyman Long was 2-for-5. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native at College of Southern Nevada hit a pair of two-run home runs, his eighth and ninth of the season. Andrew Kirchener was 1-for-5. The Lakewood, California native at UNLV had an RBI. Tyler Hummel went 2-for-4. The Nolensville, Tennessee native at Colorado School of the Mines knocked in one run.
The Prospects' Tucker Bradley went 2-for-3. Cade Lynam was 2-for-2 and Danny Spongberg was 0-for-3 with an RBI.
More Information: With the win, Fremont extended its win streak to four games. Also, Fremont ended the Prospects' 14-game win streak. The Prospects' lead the Moo in the season series, 4-3.
