Fremont, Nebraska- The Nebraska Prospects put together an eight-run eighth inning which led to a 14-6 win over the Fremont Moo, Sunday night at Historic Moller Field.
Fremont started the scoring in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Tyler Harrington singled and Tyman Long doubled. Then, Jayson Willers hit a two-RBI single off the left field fence, scoring Harrington and Long to put Fremont up, 2-0. Then, Henry Hayman ripped an RBI double, scoring Willers to make it 3-0, in favor of the Moo.
The Prospects grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth, after sending nine batters to the plate. Tyler Palmer singled and Sid deMayo doubled. Two batters later, Kaden Young hit a two-RBI single, scoring Palmer and deMayo to make it 3-2. Cole Kitchens singled and Jake Williams doubled, plating Young, to tie the game at three. Then, Nathan Cunningham singled, bringing home Kitchens to put the Prospects up 4-3.
The Moo tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Off Prospects' reliever Jackson Meier, Braden Sweet reached on an error. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third. Two batters later, Blake Tablazon hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Sweet, to tie the game at four.
Fremont grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Long doubled. Two batters later, Henry Hayman hit a pop up to shallow right field. Prospects second baseman Easton Swafford and right fielder Jake Williams converged on the ball and Williams could not make the catch, scoring Lyman to put Fremont ahead 5-4.
The game completely turned in the eighth inning. Carson Jasa entered the game and struggled. He faced eleven batters and saw eight Prospects' players score, to put the visitors up 12-5.
In the top of the ninth, the Prospects added two more runs off reliever Jagger Edwards. With one out, Easton Swafford and Tyler Palmer hit back-to-back singles. Sid deMayo, Tre' Mungin and Jackson Trout all drew walks allowing Swafford and Palmer to score, making it 14-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, Tyman Long swung at the first pitch from reliever Bradon Cannon and crushed his tenth home run of the season, over the left field fence, to make it 14-6. Cannon rebounded by striking out Willers, Hayman and getting Trey Nichols to swing and miss at a 2-2 pitch, to end the game.
Prospects' starter Casey Trapp pitched 3.0 innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out four and had one wild pitch. Jackson Meier pitched 3.0 innings, giving up two hits, and one unearned run, walked one, struck out four and had two wild pitches. Cole Whitehill (1-0) earned the win. In his first appearance with the Prospects he pitched 1.0 inning, giving up two hits and one unearned run, and struck out one. Braden Cannon pitched 2.0 innings, gave up one hit, one run, struck out five and gave up the home run to Long in the ninth.
Fremont starter Marco Ibarra pitched 5.0 innings. The Carson, California native at Cal- State Chico gave up eight hits, three earned runs and struck out seven. Jacob Ortiz pitched 2.0 innings. The Tucson, Arizona native from Cerro Coso Community College gave up two hits and struck out three. Carson Jasa (1-1) pitched 0.2 innings. The Arvada, Colorado native headed to the University of Nebraska gave up five hits, eight runs, walked five, struck out two, had two wild pitches and hit one batter. Jagger Edwards pitched 1.1 innings. The San Antonio, Texas native at Columbia University gave up two hits, two runs, walked five and struck out one.
Offensively, the Prospects' Easton Swafford was 2-for-5. Tyler Palmer went 4-for-6 with two RBI's. Sid deMayo was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jackson Trout was 1-for-1 with three RBI's. Cole Kitchens was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jake Williams was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nathan Cunningham was 2-for-3 with a run batted in.
For Fremont, Tyler Harrington was 2-for-5. The Lakeland, Tennessee native headed to UAB had two singles. Tyman Long was 3-for-5. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native at College of Southern Nevada hit his tenth home run of the year, in the ninth. Jayson Willers was 2-for-5. The Davenport, Iowa native at Morningside University was 2-for-5 with two RBI's and Henry Hayman was 1-for-5. The Melbourne, Australia native from Barton County Community College drove in one run.
More Information: The Moo and the Prospects split their rain-shortened two-game series at one game a piece. With the loss, Fremont's four-game win streak came to an end. The Prospects now lead the season series 5-3.
Up Next: The Prospects (21-4, 7-1) will begin a three game series at Hastings versus the Sodbusters, Monday night. Fremont (22-13, 5-6) will travel to Pierre, South Dakota to begin a three game series with the Oahe Zap. All three games, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will begin at 6:35pm.
