Fremont, Nebraska- The Fremont Moo snapped a season-long six game slide by defeating the Nebraska Prospects 8-3, Sunday night at Historic Moller Field.
The Moo capitalized on five walks and a hit batter from Prospects' starter Casey Trapp in the first inning. Fremont sent ten batters to the plate and scored four runs. Blake Tablazon and Ben Swails drew back-to-back walks. A double-steal put runners at second and third. Two batters later, Tyler Harrington walked and Hayden Lewis did the same, scoring Tablazon. Henry Hayman delivered an RBI single, scoring Swails, to make it 2-0. Jason Willers was hit by a pitch to bring home Harrington and Tyler Hummel drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Lewis to put Fremont up, 4-0.
Fremont extended the lead in the bottom of the third. Henry Hayman led off with a single and stole second. Two batters later, Hummel hit an RBI double, scoring Hayman, to make it 5-0.
The Prospects got on the board in the top of the fourth. Kaden Young led off with a single off Moo starter Trey Nichols. Three batters later, Colin Lynam hit his first home run of the year, a two run shot over the left field fence off a Nichols 2-0 pitch, to make it 5-2.
The Moo got a run back in the bottom of the fifth. Hayman led off the inning hitting a 2-0 pitch from Prospects reliever Charlie Mosser over the "Moller Monster". His third big fly of the year made it 6-2.
"Henry is a monster," coach Ben Ascher said. "He has been seeing the baseball very well. He is going to be a big part of our championship run."
Fremont added to the lead in the seventh. With one out, Hummel drew a walk, then stole second and third. Two batters later, Tablazon hit an RBI single, scoring Hummel, to make it 7-2.
The Moo's final run came in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, pinch-hitter Hunter Palmer hit a double to left-center. The next batter, Hayman, replaced Palmer at second, with an RBI double, to make it 8-2.
The Prospects battled in the ninth. Tucker Bradley drew a walk off Fremont reliever Cole Hupke. Two batters later, Tre' Mungin walked. Then, Sid deMayo hit an RBI double, scoring Bradley, making it 8-3. However, Hupke got Kaden Young to pop up to Tyler Hummel at third base to end the game.
Fremont starter Trey Nichols (4-0) earned the win. The Bowling Green, Missouri native at Midland University, pitched 7.0 innings, giving up ten hits, two runs, struck out six and yielded the two-run home run to Colin Lynam in the fourth. Cole Hupke, the Brandon, South Dakota native, pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two hits, one run, walked two and struck out three.
"Trey threw a great game for us and gave it everything that he had," Ascher said. "Overall a great team win and I am happy with teams performance."
Prospects' starter Casey Trapp (0-1) took the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings, giving up three hits, five runs, walked six, struck out two and hit one batter. Charlie Mosser pitched 2.0 innings. He gave up three hits, one run, walked two, struck out four, yielded the home run to Hayman in the third, and had one wild pitch. Cole Whitehill pitched 2.0 innings. He gave up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out two. Cameron Pickens pitched 1.0 inning, giving up two hits and one run.
Offensively, Fremont's Blake Tablazon was 1-for-4. The Lynewoon, Washington native from Cerro Coso Community College, drove in one. Hayden Lewis was 1-for-3. The Yutan native at the University of Nebraska had one RBI. Henry Hayman was 4-for-5. The Melbourne, Australia native from Barton County Community College hit this third home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth. He knocked in three. Jayson Willers was 1-for-4. The Davenport, Iowa native at Morningside University brought home one run. Tyler Hummel was 1-for-2. The Nolensville, Tennessee native at Colorado School of Mines had two RBI's.
The Prospects' Sid deMayo was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Cole Kitchens and Jackson Trout both went 2-for-4 and Colin Lynam was 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the fourth.
More Information: Fremont snapped its longest losing streak in two years, which reached six games. The Prospects won the season series over Fremont, 6-5.
