Fremont, Nebraska- The Nebraska Prospects scored five runs in the top of the third inning on the way to an 8-4 win over the Fremont Moo, Saturday night, at Historic Moller Field.
The Prospects took the lead in the top of the first inning. Lead off batter Tyler Palmer was hit by a pitch from Moo starter Carson Jasa. Easton Swafford and Sid deMayo hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. A pitch in the dirt bounced to the left of catcher Jayson Willers and Swafford meandered too far off second base. Willers threw back to second, but the throw sailed high, allowing Palmer to score. Joel Benes walked, then Jackson Trout hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Swafford to make it 2-0.
Fremont tied the game in the bottom of the second. Jayson Willers led off by getting hit by a pitch. Then, Neil Jansen hit a 3-1 pitch off starter Jackson Meier over the left center field fence to tie the game at 2-2.
In the top of the third, Joel Benes led off the inning hitting a 3-1 pitch off Jasa just left of the batter's eye in center field, to make it 3-2. Jackson Trout walked and advanced to second and third on back-to-back wild pitches. Mungin walked and stole second. A third wild pitch scored Trout and advanced Mungin to third. Tucker Bradley walked and two batters later, Braden Cannon did the same. Braden Sweet entered the game, replacing Jasa. Tyler Palmer hit a two-RBI double bringing home Bradley and Cannon to make it 7-2.
The score would stay that way until the top of the ninth. With one out, Mungin drew a walk. After a ground out to short by Bradley, Nathan Cunningham reached on an error by Tyler Hummel, at second, scoring Mungin to make it 8-2.
Fremont battled in the bottom of the ninth. Against reliever Sam Wragge, Jason Clark led off with a single, then Darius Blasingane pinch-ran for Clark. Andrew Kirchner reached on a walk, to put runners at first and second. Tyler Hummel reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and third. Easton Steck delivered an RBI single to left, scoring Blasingane, to make it 8-3. Two batters later, Henry Hayman hit an RBI single to bring in Hummel, to make it 8-4. However, Wragge got Tyler Harrington to swing at an 0-1 pitch and grounded to second, forcing out Hayman, to end the game.
The Prospects' starter Jackson Meier (2-0) earned the win. He pitched 6.0 innings, giving up four hits, two runs, struck out four, yielded the home run to Neil Jansen, and hit four batters. P.J. Loucks pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one walk, struck out two and had one wild pitch. Sam Wragge pitched 1.0 inning, giving up three hits, two runs and walked one.
Fremont starter Carson Jasa (1-2) took the loss. The Arvada, Colorado native headed to University of Nebraska, pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four hits, five earned runs, walked six, struck out five, yielded the home run to Joel Benes, had four wild pitches and hit one batter. Braden Sweet pitched 6.1 innings. The Omaha native at Iowa Western Community College gave up two hits, one unearned run, walked six and struck out five. Kaden Van Hill, also from Omaha and Iowa Western Community College, pitched 0.2 innings, giving up one walk and struck out one.
Offensively, The Prospects' Tyler Palmer went 1-for-4 with two RBI's. Easton Swafford was 2-for-5. Joel Benes was 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Jackson Trout went 0-4, but drove in one run. Braden Cannon was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Fremont's Henry Hayman went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Neil Jansen was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Easton Steck was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
More Information: Fremont suffered its sixth straight loss, it's longest in two seasons. The Prospects lead the season series with Fremont, 6-4. The Moo's Neil Jansen hit a home run for the second straight game. Friday night's Prospects/Moo game which was rained out will not be rescheduled.
Up Next: Fremont (22-18, 5-11) will wrap up the weekend and season series with The Nebraska Prospects (25-5, 11-2) Sunday night. First pitch is 6:05pm. Sunday will be "Sundae Family Fun Day". All kids 12-and-under get in for free and may run the bases after the game. There will be ice cream sundaes for sale at the Moo Food concession stand and many food specials throughout the game.
