Fremont, Nebraska- The Nebraska Prospects recorded their eleventh straight win and defeated the Fremont Moo 9-7, Thursday night at Historic Moller Field. Fremont dropped all three games in the series and suffered a home series sweep for the first time in two years. With the loss, the Moo losing streak reached four games.
The Prospects started the scoring in the top of the first. Tre' Mungin led off with a walk and Colin Lynam followed with a base hit. A double-steal put runners on second and third. Then, a Cole Hupke wild pitch scored Mungin, making it 1-0.
Fremont responded, though, in the bottom of the first. Blake Tablazon led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Josh Blount delivered an RBI single, scoring Tablazon, making it 1-1. Two batters later, Conner Petersen singled to put runners out the corners. A wild pitch from Prospects' starter Charlie Mosser scored Blount to put Fremont up 2-1. After Henry Hayman grounded out to second, advancing Petersen to third, another Mosser wild pitch scored Petersen, to make it 3-1, Fremont.
The Moo extended the lead in the bottom of the second. With one out, Hunter Palmer drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third, then scored on another wild pitch. Tablazon and Blount drew back to back walks, which chased Mosser from the game. Cameron Pickens took over on the mound and walked Tyman Long to load the bases. Then, Petersen hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Tablazon, to make it 5-1. Hayman delivered an RBI single to center, scoring Blount, to put the Moo up 6-1, after two innings.
However, everything changed in the fourth inning, as the Prospects sent eleven batters to the plate. Kadyn Van Hill took over on the mound for Fremont. With one out, Prospects' catcher Britton Bond singled, Jackson Meier was hit by a pitch, Jake Williams walked and Cade Lynam drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-2. Mungin delivered an RBI single, scoring Meier, making it 6-3. Colin Lynam got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, making it 6-4. Then, Cole Kitchens hit a 2-RBI single, plating Mungin and Colin Lynam, to tie the score at six. Two batters later, Nathan Cunningham hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Colin Lynam, to put the Prospects in front, 7-6.
Fremont knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Blount drew a base on balls. Long singled and Petersen did the same, to load the bases. Hayman hit a slow bouncer to third, which forced Long out, but Blount scored to make it seven, all.
The Prospects took the lead for good in the top of the fifth. With one out, Jake Williams singled and Cade Lynam drew a walk. After a Mungin strikeout, Colin Lynam hit a bouncing ball to Hayman at third. His throw did not connect with Tablazon covering at second and Williams put the Prospects up 8-7.
In the seventh, the Prospects added one more. With one out, Williams was hit by a pitch and stole second. Cade Lynam drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Two batters later, Colin Lynam was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Then, Williams scored on a Zane Leyden wild pitch, making it 9-7.
Like Wednesday night, the Moo made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. Petersen led off with a single off Prospects fire-baller Jackson Jelkin. Darius Blasingane came in to pinch run for Petersen. Then, Henry Hayman struck out looking, Andrew Kirchener singled to put runners at first and second, bringing the winning run to the plate. However, Jelkin got Jansen looking at a 1-2 pitch for the second out, then struck out pinch hitter Jayson Willers on a 3-2 cutter for the final out of the game.
The Prospects starter Charlie Mosser pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two hits, six runs, five walks, striking out one and throwing five wild pitches. Cameron Pickens pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one hit, one walk, struck out two and had one wild pitch. Tadyn Bell (1-0) earned the win. He pitched three innings giving up two hits, one run, struck out one and walked one. Casey Trapp pitched a perfect seventh inning. Then, Jackson Jelkin (1) pitched 2.0 innings for the save, giving up three hits, walked one and struck out five.
Fremont starter Cole Hupke pitched 3.0 innings. The Brandon, South Dakota native gave up one hit, one run, walked three and struck out five with one wild pitch and hit one batter. Kadyn Van Hill (0-1) took the loss. In his longest outing of the year, the Omaha native at Iowa Western Community College pitched 3.1 innings, giving up five hits, seven earned runs, walked four, struck out five and hit three batters. Zane Leyden, the Firth, Nebraska native at Bellevue University, pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two walks, struck out one and hit one batter. Brandon Lundquist, the Omaha native at the University of Nebraska, pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one walk and striking out one.
The Prospects' Tre' Mungin was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Colin Lynam was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Cole Kitchens was 1-for-4 with two RBI's. Nathan Cunningham was 1-for-5 with an RBI and Cade Lynam was 0-for-1 with an RBI and four walks.
For Fremont, Josh Blount was 1-for-1. Playing in his final game for the Moo, the DePere, Wisconsin native at Iowa Central Community College, drove in one run. Conner Petersen was 3-for-5. The Tucson, Arizona native at Midland University was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Henry Hayman was 1-for-5. The Melbourne, Australia native from Barton County Community College drove in two runs, and Andrew Kirchener, the Lakewood, California native at UNLV, went 2-for-4.
More Information: For the first time this season, the Moo dropped a home series. Plus, the Moo got swept in a series at home for the first time in two years.
